It is the second week of September, one-hundred-eleven years ago.
Five weeks have passed since Germany declared war on Russia and France and invaded neutral Belgium.
The Germans are following a plan which, if successful, will enable them to parade down the Champs-Élysées in forty days.
The plan calls for the German army to swing north and west through Belgium, then bear down on Paris to the south.
With a quick conquest of France, Germany will then be able to concentrate its forces on Russia before it can fully mobilize.
And as the plan unfolded, Germany had battlefield success...
