President Lincoln arrived in Harper’s Ferry by special train from Washington yesterday.
After reviewing Federal troops, Lincoln visited the ruined railroad bridge and federal buildings destroyed three weeks ago by General Stonewall Jackson’s Confederate forces.
The fight at Harper’s Ferry opened General Lee’s Maryland campaign and resulted in the capture of arms and more than twelve thousand Federal troops.
Lincoln left Harper’s Ferry at noon today and traveled by horse and wagon to General McClellan’s headquarters at the Grove Farm near Sharpsburg, Maryland.
