A rain delay of about 80 minutes led to the first four laps behind the safety car before a rolling start was implemented, and when racing finally began, Piastri passed Norris with a bold slipstream move through Eau Rouge and down the Kemmel Straight on the first competitive lap—and never relinquished the lead.
