"I'm different, I'm not like other girls"
This is a narrative that women have heard for a very long time. Be different. Stand out. Be above the rest. In this episode, we discuss the "Pick Me" girl-- a woman who tries to position herself to gain the attention and approval of men.
We discuss the issues with this mentality and how it comes from a place internalized misogyny. We also critique the behaviors that go along with it, and get real with times we've witnessed or have participated in that same mindset.
This criticism is not just from an individual level--but the mindset as a whole. That we were fed to believe that in order to be "desirable", we must find ways to distinguish ourselves from other women. The message here is not to put blame on people who feel this way, but to recognize that the issue lies deeper than other women. This way, we can collectively begin healing.
