WE must laugh or else we'll cry. We've been told that the trillion dollar deficits as far as the eye can see are necessary to balance the budget; war in Afghanistan is necessary for peace at home; nationalizing banks, insurance companies, and auto makers is necessary to save the free market, and so on. We've concluded that this administration must be a bunch of Contraries, people who say exactly the opposite of what they mean.
