Pieter van Rosmalen is founding partner of independent type foundry Bold Monday and works in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, as type designer and graphic designer. He studied advertising and graphic design at Sint Lucas in Boxtel and typography and type design at Type & Media at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. Pieter is typically working on ten different typefaces at the same time. He has designed retail as well as custom typefaces for clients worldwide.

We talk with Pieter van Rosmalen about his first typographic memory. Pieter explains why he and Paul van der Laan decided to join forces in Bold Monday in 2008. Because Pieter’s earlier work (under the name of Caketype) is very different from the work of Bold Monday, we wonder why that is. We also talk about the success of the typeface Nitti. And Nitti Monster, the new and very heavy member of the Nitti family he has been working on recently. We end the interview asking what kind of music he likes to listen to while working on typefaces.
