[A new symbol of Taiwan’s spirit]

 

The Taiwanese have turned a sudden Chinese ban on their pineapples into a moment of national unity and pride. Chinese authorities stopped imports of the fruit on March 1, claiming that shipments contained bugs. That left Taiwanese farmers wondering how they were going to shift 45,000 tons of the prickly palate-pleasers.
