Pioneer Women Jockeys: The “Right To Ride” Exhibit At The Kentucky Derby Museum

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the appearance as a jockey at the Kentucky Derby of a woman jockey pioneer, Diane Crump, the Kentucky Derby Museum is hosting an interesting and important exhibition which is entitled “Right to Ride.” We welcome Jessica Whitehead of the Kentucky Derby Museum, Curator of Collections, to discuss the Museum's Exhibit. While women had been able to vote in the United States since the 19th Amendment of 1920, it wouldn’t be until some 50 years later, because of The Civil Rights Act of 1964, that they would be able to pursue a career as a jockey.
