Prior to moving to Alaska, Piper was Vice President of Amatis Controls, an Internet of Things manufacturing start-up based in Aspen, Colorado. There, she also served as Board Chair of the Colorado Solar Energy Industries Association. 

Additionally, she is a German Chancellor fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
