There will be a public hearing on firearms use during deer season at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24. The event will take place in the Pipestone County Courthouse Commissioners Room. The event was originally scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 3; but, it was moved because of caucuses that day. The statewide shotgun zone was repealed as of Jan. 1, 2026. Effective that date, counties may adopt their own ordinances that restrict certain firearms during the deer hunting season. The Pipestone Parks and Recreation Department has a batting cage located in the blue building at the Pipestone County Fairgrounds. The physical address for the fairgrounds is 10th Avenue SE. To use the batting cage, a key is available at the Ewert Recreation Center during open hours. It must be returned 15 minutes prior to the center closing. JACKSON — Pipestone Area Schools’ junior wrestler Mason Fruechte reached another milestone during a triangular on Thursday, Jan. 15. Fruechte recorded a 20-2 technical fall over Drake Engelby from Blue Earth Area, giving Mason his 75th career victory. It was another step on the rung for this state qualifier. “I’m very impressed with Mason,” PAS head wrestling coach Paul Young said. “He’s gotten bigger, stronger and better in every aspect (of the sport).” Young recalled Mason Fruechte’s earlier days when he barely could make the minimum weight to compete.
