The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra played an all-American program to finish their classical season on Friday June 19th, 2026. It was to celebrate American 250 and featured Manfred Honeck conducting a brand new piece by Michael Daugherty titled "Dancing in the Streets," Jesse Montgomery's "Strum" and Aaron Copland's "Appalachian Spring" which included 10 members of Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre on stage during the performance. Plus, Augustin Hadelich played the Barber Violin Concerto. WQED-FM broadcast the concert live.
Before the concert, Jim Cunningham spoke to PSO Associate Principal Trombone Douglas Rosenthal (00:00) and Associate Principal Violist Tatjana Mead (08:18) to get their thoughts on the concert. During intermission, Jim was joined by Music Director Manfred Honeck (12:12), guest violinist Augustin Hadelich (17:56), and composer Michael Daugherty (22:16).
