Jessica Amos joins us today to discuss her recent pivot into the world of coaching and escaping the ways in which we are all conditioned. Jessica is a meditation trainer whose work features on the Insight Training app. She is also known for her TEDx talk about healing anxiety through presence and meditation.
Recently, Jessica has made a conscious jump into coaching. As a meditation teacher she found she was getting frequent requests for one-on-one coaching and finally decided to take the leap. In working out who her core audience was, Jessica interviewed men about their awakenings. Before long she was able to pivot again into what she really wanted to target: boundaries, people pleasing and co-dependency.
Leading up to this pivot, Jessica had been feeling that she had reached the maximum that she could accomplish on her own. She realized that she needed to change her mindset and find community. It was this realization that led to taking coaching classes and really zeroing in on what she wanted to put out into the world.
Jessica grew up with an unstable home life. She discusses how the mechanisms she learned in regards to relationships stayed with her through adulthood. Learning to people please and diminish herself at an early age was not an easy cycle to break. She tells us that having her daughter was the catalyst for Jessica beginning to come back to herself.
To end the episode, Jessica and Scott discuss the importance of beginning. Just taking a small action can be the thing that breaks the cycle. We have all been given boxes that we live in, but just because that’s what we’ve been given doesn’t mean that’s where we have to stay.
