The pizza in New Jersey is the best in the country, quite possibly the world. However, which pizza place is the best is always a point of contention depending on who you ask. Brooklyn Square Pizza consistently ranks as one of the best pizza joints in the Garden State and its owner, Peter Grippo, has some deep roots in the pizza world.

Segment 1
Peter "Pizza" discusses his background working for his uncle at his pizza shop in Brooklyn, NY and going out on his own in 2001. His signature pie, the "Upside Down," has become one of the most recognizable around the state. Peter describes his square pizzas, why he puts the sauce on top of the cheese, and why it is definitely NOT a "Sicilian" pie. Even though Brooklyn Square Pizza has been busy since day one, Peter gives some shout outs to Peter Genovese of the NJ.com and Dave Portnoy of Barstool Sports who have recognized Brooklyn Square Pizza as one of the best in the state.

Today in New Jersey History: The Bayonne Bridge opened on November 15, 1931

Segment 2
Peter discusses dealing with the pandemic, labor shortages at restaurants, and other things that have impacted his business. Peter was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2016 and working and running three Brooklyn Square Pizza locations in Jackson, Toms River, and Manalapan he said has given him a purpose. He also talks about ideas he has for the future of the restaurant.

New Jersey Fun Fact:
New Jersey was the first state to sign the Bill of Rights

Segment 3
"Spread Love it's the Brooklyn Way" may be a Biggie Smalls' lyric, but that has become the motto of Brooklyn Square Pizza. Peter talks about the importance of how he interacts with his customers and his community. Peter also discusses how overwhelming the support his community brought to the table, purchasing pies he could deliver to hospitals, churches, and other places that support the community. He is also a big supporter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society because he's seen firsthand the impact it has on other people's lives.
