PJ Hanks: The Power of Breaking Through Resistance

Listen Later

In this episode Ariel is joined by PJ Hanks, business leader and entrepreneur, about the power of breaking through resistance and loving yourself.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • My background was in adult education: software training. Except for a few years here and there, working for friends in their businesses, I’ve always worked running my own business. The last 12 years I’ve been a health and wellbeing coach as well as a business coach for others doing the same thing. I’ve spent 12 years as a volunteer working with women who’ve had loved ones in addiction. So, I’ve had a few decades under my belt to help a lot of people, especially women, find hope and solutions for a lot of the things we all struggle with so much, that’s where my real passion is in helping people find that hope.
  • A lot of how we talk to ourselves is very negative, we don’t use the power of our brain – or we let our brain take control. We have up to 1,000-5,000 negative thoughts before we’ve brushed our teeth: ‘I can’t make it through the day’, ‘I look terrible in that outfit’, ‘my eyes look puffy’. Every time we think a negative thing our brain reinforces it, because that’s how it protects us. But, if we can flip that thinking the brain is powerful enough to do that. Instead of thinking how tired you are (and the brain will look for reasons to back up why you feel tired), try waking up and saying ‘how do I want to feel today? Energised, or OK even though I made mistakes yesterday’. The minute we flip to the positive the brain will start attracting positive thinking.
  • I’m a big fan of Noah St John, who uses affirmations. But if I stand in front of the mirror saying I look beautiful there are all those feelings saying ‘that’s not what you really think’. What St John says is flip things to questions because then the brain will start looking to prove to you why. So, say ‘why am I so beautiful?’
  • When there’s really harsh days and you’re feeling really down on yourself, reach out to a friend. Hopefully you all have a friend that gets you, will let you cry, who will say ‘it’s OK, it’s going to be alright’. I have a box by my desk where I print off and post emails or messages that are positive about me. I'll reach into that box and read a few to remind myself that I am capable or I can work through things, I can help people.

BEST MOMENTS

“My ‘What’s Next’, or ‘5 Minute’ Principle is whenever someone is in a state of life where everything is so overwhelming, you get frozen and we all have our own ways of trying to cope, but we don’t look at what’s freezing us and how can we do something? Just think ‘what’s next?’, even if it’s just sitting up, then what’s next? Going to the bathroom, what’s next? Brush your teeth. Sometimes that’s enough success for one day.”

“The power of aroma, like smelling coffee brewing in the kitchen, is enough to get them out of bed. For others, the smell of aromatherapy oils will stimulate the brain in the same way.”

“Music is very powerful, I have different kinds of playlists, like epic music for when I want to get things done.”

“Expressing gratitude to other people raises our vibrational frequencies, and sends a note of positivity to someone you know.”

ABOUT THE GUEST

PJ Hanks: There was a time in my life when I had lost hope for good health, healthy and happy children, and the possibility of financial security. After prayerful searching, I found hope.

It then became my passion to help others find hope. I have spent most of my professional and volunteer career helping women find hope, discover solutions and achieve their goals. It is my experience that 8 out 10 people wish their health was better, they could control their emotions better, or would like to have more money. I get out of bed every day excited to help you find answers to these three things.

My name is PJ Hanks and my husband, Cliff, and I live in Carnation, WA—a small town about 45 minutes east of Seattle. During our 33 years of marriage, we have raised three kids, built successful home-based businesses and served countless hours in our church and community.

Not everything has been perfect though. Our family had many health problems. We struggled with making enough money. All the stress pressured our relationships. Out of a determination for a better life, I discovered the tools and solutions we needed to improve our health, income, and strengthen our relationships. Now, I love sharing those tools and solutions with everyone who needs and wants them.

Most of my adult life I have coached individuals to not just cope with their challenges but find hope and solutions. My extensive study of health and wellness has not only benefited my family, but many others that I worked with. I would be honoured to support you in achieving your goals and aspirations so that you can have a fulfilled, powerful, and extraordinary life.
