In which a young Englishman, embarking upon his colonial career in the tea plantations of India, finds his youthful promises and affections entangled with the shifting fortunes of love and duty far from home. Through his dawdling constancy and gentle weaknesses, he becomes bound in marriage to a native hill woman whose steadfast care begins to tame his errant ways, whilst the echoes of a forsaken English love linger in the background.
