While I may not be a farmer, I do know that a first step to growing something is putting a seed in the ground. I know, I know. You probably need to do something to the soil, maybe set up a watering system, or any number of other things, but seeds are important. You need a seed to grow a plant.
Have you ever helped a little kid grow something? You help them put the seed under the dirt and give it a little bit of water. Then comes the waiting, which is the hardest part for kids. They have trouble understanding that if they are patient, something will grow. The work has already started; they just can’t see it yet.
That is a good reminder for grown-ups too. When we share the Good News of Jesus with those around us, often they do not jump at the chance to change their lives. That is okay! The Lord is the one who knows peoples’ hearts, as the Bible says over and over. And like seeds, sometimes ideas need time to grow, even life-changing ideas like God’s truth and Good News. So, if someone you love does not know Jesus yet, don’t give up hope. Remember that you’re planting seeds and God will make them grow. The seed may not sprout today or tomorrow, but with some patience and a whole lot of love and care, the love of God will start to blossom. Then, many a person will know the truth and start living for Christ.
