After leaving Corinth, Paul stops by Ephesus on his way back to Jerusalem and Antioch, eventually taking leave of the latter to begin his third missionary journey. He left Priscilla and Aquila in Ephesus, who meet Apollos from Alexandria, a gifted communicator of the Scriptures. With the help of Priscilla and Aquila, Apollos is further equipped to more effectively share the gospel, and he leaves Ephesus for Corinth, to water where Paul has already planted. Looking at this text in Acts, as well as 1 Corinthians 3:1-7, we are reminded that those who plant and water are not worthy of glory, but God alone is worthy, as he is the one who gives growth. However, we as his people should learn to plant and water well, pressing into our gifts and learning from each other that the name of the Lord may be exalted and that many would come to know him.
