Plato's Republic is probably in the top 10 most influential books of all-time. It contains remarkable and beautiful insights as well as tyrannical and dangerous ones. Plato, with the guidance of his prototypical philosopher-king Socrates, attempts to tackle the notion of justice. Plato ends up writing a book about how to obtain a more perfect city-state, who should rule and why, the theory of Forms connected to The Good, the idea of soulness and how justice and soulness are connected to the afterlife. Plato's Republic is profoundly important so I figured it was worth spending at least one episode attempting to explain what this book is about.
