The problem with being a hopeless romantic is not in the fact of falling in love. It is in the fact of falling out of love. We fall so deeply in love, to escape from it, to move on - for some of us takes long hours of contemplation, hours of pain, maybe even years. There is great pain in someone breaking your heart, but more often than not, the hopeless romantics to save themselves from the love they have for someone else must break their own heart. And while one might argue that breaking your own heart is better than having it broken, I warn that it is still a most agonizing experience that requires steady slow hands along the wrist as you cut the web of love away. And then, once you’ve freed yourself, once the pain is gone, you end up thinking about them every day for a while wondering what could have been. And then magically one day, be it a miracle you fall in love again and life becomes oh so simple as it must be. And it’s when you believe the miracle exists but have no hope that it will come that you assume the role of a truly hopeless, romantic.
