In today’s interweb world, the whole “deep fake” thing has made me cautious. I simply do not believe memes or posts from certain websites. I find it hard to believe that people will believe stuff that is so obviously false. Then again, human nature has always been that it is easier to believe something that we like, something that fits our own bias and convictions over something that it is less likely to tickle our ears, regardless of the actual truth.
Back in 2016, Conservatives were likely to believe, and often post (and still do), a meme about Hillary claiming that she was going to be hung if Trump won, and some rather nasty words about Michelle Obama. Both statements were clearly made up… you know, false… pretend… phony… obviously faked. But so many people believed it that it was ridiculous to imagine that actually thinking Conservative people could be that stupid was scary.
So, when it comes to Social Media sharing politicians’ “statements” about stupid things, I almost automatically reject it.
