Crina Hoyer, a long-time conservation leader, shares painful lessons learned from years of deploying “knowledge bomb” campaigns intended to get citizens in Whatcom County, WA to recycle. When these efforts failed to yield the desired results, she pivoted the organization she led, RE Sources for Sustainable Communities, to embrace different techniques steeped in principles of social marketing.
