There are two kinds of acceptance. There's the GOOD kind, where you accept reality for what it is, and then assess what YOU can do to make it better, move forward, etc.
Then there's the NEGATIVE kind...where you accept reality as it is, decide there's NOTHING you can do...and GIVE UP. This is "learned helplessness" and the key word is LEARNED.
I want so badly for you to remember that ultimately, YOU are the one in control of your own life. It doesn't mean it will be easy to make the choices you need to make or do the things you need to do, but when we get down to it, you hold the power over what your life looks like.
I found some notes from a conference I attended--I was brought in to do a couple fitness classes at the Wisconsin Association of Women Police conference a few years ago, and I was fortunate to sit in on the lectures.
My notes from the speaker brought in from Blue Courage (Chisa, I apologize but I can't remember her last name!) all talk about owning your power, remembering that you always have a choice, that 90% of happiness is determined by how your brain interprets the world.
