Overview: There has been a generational shift in our world today. Up to 5 generations are worshiping in our churches today. W-all the differing opinions - world views how do we decide right from wrong - good from best- We're living w-a new religion of Moralistic, Therapeutic, Deism. This new religion is not the same as traditional Christianity. Moral - Scriptural absolutes are required for a well-functioning world. The Bible offers a to compare our decisions to a standard to determine if your decisions are right. Ch. 1-3 give motivation to ch. 4, which then gives us reasons to follow ch. 5. Imitate God as a beloved, only child - v.1. V.2 - We imitate God by walking in His love. This is a command. Vs.3-5 Imitate God by being pure. We avoid pleasing ourselves. Keep your desires restrained. Even when we speak, remove any crude - base speech which are all linked to idolatry to ourselves. Vs. 6-9 Imitate God by walking in the light. The author even gives us examples of what walking in the light looks like. Imitation requires study. We have to spend time focusing on God - His word in order to imitate Him so we can know what's pleasing to Him. The standards behind all our decisions need to be if we're pleasing God. He needs to be the benchmark that everything's judged by. All decisions must be submitted to this process. If our standard's not tied to God, we will crash - burn. Don't live your life w-o a rudder.
