The POCcorn podcast reviews films created, directed and/or starring People of Color. Each show uses four questions to describe our thoughts on the film, plus one POCcorn moment we simply MUST discuss in detail.
In this episode, we review Boy. This film was chosen to highlight Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Set in New Zealand, a young impressionable boy, obsessed with Michael Jackson, and infatuated with his absentee father is forced to adjust to a new reality in the span of a week. This film was sweet, and light, and heartbreaking all at once. The innocence of this kid's hopes and dreams immersed us as viewers into his fantasy, while forcing us all to reconcile with the truth of his upbringing right alongisde him. Listen in!
