(Pod-Class 3) Suzuki Cello Book 1 String Crossing D-A Free Lesson Posture Bow Tone Exercis
hi tail tellers welcome to tail telecom now listen we're going to um go on to the second exercise for changing strings this is quite exciting this is really starting to properly play the cello so i hope you've got the mirror in front of you um go near the frog i think uh about four inches is probably the easiest position for us at the moment and let me play the top line for you
now you notice that we've got those two rests and those rests mean um uh absence of playing notes but actually if you imagine these in your head and then say it again in your head it's time to cross strings
um but of course we're crossing the string while we're doing the rest so we are already there so
cross the string but don't play it and cross the string but don't play it and cross the string but don't play it yet do you see so we're all ready now the next line we have no rests so it's a little bit different we need to be there pretty quick now keep checking in the mirror for um let's just practice uh a long bow keeping it straight down on the d a down bow on the d and an up bow on the a let's try that string swap up
string swap down
string swap up
okay now we're going to do those quickly
very good well that's all you have to do so what you have to remember is to do don't leave it too late to cross over to the next note because then you'll end up with this oh now i've got to cross that's too late okay now let's do our check what are our checks do you remember have you listened to the reference recordings i hope so over and over again so that you really know what to what what to do and that's how you get faster because you know what's coming did you make a pretty sound or a squeaky sound if it was squeaky your bow wasn't straight
if it was straight
you would have made a pretty sound okay
always look in the mirror always have a mirror in front of you uh is your posture correct is your back straight how about your hand have you got that little mouse living under there are your fingers really relaxed and your thumb vent and feather like
happy touching the bow just gliding just you're really the bow sits because gravity tells it to sit there and all our hand is doing is stopping it rolling forward that's all and then guiding it in a straight line and parents and teachers are they motivating you i do hope so i hope you enjoy practicing that's the thing um practicing becomes um a ritual really for all musicians successful musicians and by successful i mean musicians who are improving every day you can not practice and you will find that you will go right back to the beginning very very quickly so it's a really good idea to practice every day and some people some musicians practice more than once a day and i think that's the way to do it myself it means you don't get body pains and things like that but when you're young you probably don't mind about things like that so much so that's our check done and that's the exercise for changing string and the next exercise is for quick placement of fingers and we'll be doing that a little bit later i don't think we should be rushing these things back soon
