Ray is an author and athlete and has been flying helicopters for the last 30 years.

He was '' lucky" enough to be on shift on the 27th of December 1998 as the Sydney to Hobart yachting disaster was unfolding.

This is his recollection of events and the rescue he and his crew conducted.
