Matt Schorer looked at the scale one day and saw a number he didn’t like. It was over 350 pounds. Living a mostly sedentary life driving a truck, finding time to workout was challenging. But something needed to be done about this.
So Matt answered a local ad for a weight loss program and bravely took the first step by going to the gym. It stuck. Matt started knocking off pounds and adding incredible goals to his future. In particular, he wants to one day race in Ironman Kona! He started a facebook page called Follow The Fat Guy to Ironman Kona and got to work.
There are generally two ways to get to Kona. The first is to qualify. While not disqualifying that possibility in the future, Matt is aware that is a lofty goal. The second way is through the Ironman Legacy Program. Finishers of 12 Ironman races can apply for a lottery to race in Kona. This past July, Matt finished his very first Ironman triathlon in Lake Placid (just a few minutes ahead of me). We wish him the best of luck as he continues his quest.
