Rest and recovery days are important. I generally try to take one rest day every week, although I am guilty of trying to do too much if I am in a good routine. This Monday, I rested.
Tuesday we went at it pretty hard and Wednesday… I slept. Sleep is an underrated and often underutilized part of triathlon training, and I chose the sleep option instead Wednesday’s 5am run. But I did make up for it a bit later in the morning by completing my planned workout. On other days it may not have been as easy to do this. Today, I got it done.
Tonight we head toward the start of our Ordinary Marathoner Race Series. Race #1! No, this is not a race in the traditional sense. We are not looking to beat one another to the finish line. Instead, we are looking to mark a time for ourselves. Then we will return and race the same exact course in 4-5 weeks, and race ourselves! We’ll see who has been working hard, putting the effort in and improving by getting stronger and faster.
So, it doesn’t matter if you are fast or slow, just show up, get on a TT Bike preferably, and ride hard. Then we’ll see you in a few weeks.
