In this podcast, our 74th interview is with Katsiaryna Skryhan, a biology teacher in Minsk, founder of a Belorussian biology teacher community and member of Edcamp Belarus. In our discussion, we ask how can teachers allocate more time to their hopes and dreams, rather than their urgent and important work-tasks?
We discover Katsiaryna's educational background and what a typical day looks like for her as a biology teacher; her top tips for teachers and researchers and what is Edcamp Belarus? We also find out how it has spread across the country.
Digging deeper, we learn more about the fragile topic of mental health and diversity, why Katsiaryna wants to see more autonomy from the Belorussian government and what Katsiaryna has discovered about growth mindset and her insights about plant life and starch in her PhD research. To finish, we ask Katsiaryna what her hopes are to be her legacy and end the podcast with a Belarussian quote by Uladzimir Karatkievich. It translates as: "Do the unexpected, do as if it does not exist, do as no one does, and then you will win..."
