Guy Livingston: The Bug - "music, secrets, and silence"

Podcast: Appalachia

Listen Later

This is number nine in my series of “New World Symphonies” on ConcertZender Radio – Netherlands. Tonight’s show will feature music of Aaron Copland, performed by Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic.
I grew up in Appalachia, in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains. No joke about their name – from the top window of our house, you could see them, and they were smoky looking especially in the fall. We’ll hear music from the soundtrack to Thelma and Louise (Tennessee Plates), and compositions by Meredith Monk and Florence Price.
