Podcast Dedication and The Meanings of Metta and Mystic
Thank you for taking time to check out this podcast! In this episode J.D. will explain the name of this podcast and dedication of this show & season one: “Spider Grandmother and The Last Witches of San Francisco.” The Metta Mystic is based on several concepts encompassing the ideas of Metta and Mysticism.
Metta comes from the Sanskrit word for “loving- kindness.”
Mysticism is the belief that there is hidden meaning in life or that each human being can unite with the divine. Meta also means denoting a change of position or condition. We use it in slang- that’s so meta, or metaphysical, it’s sort of related to the ideas of the multiverse as well.
Meta has become associated with creative work referring to itself or to the conventions of its genre; self-referential. i.e. For example, when somebody's making a movie about making a movie - that's meta. Or when you're writing a post on Facebook about being on Facebook, telling a joke about jokes, or reading a story about reading stories. That’s so meta dude lol.
Meta comes from the Greek prefix and preposition meta, which means “after” or “beyond.” When combined with words in English, meta- often signifies “change” or “alteration” as in the words metamorphic or metabolic.
Metta involves a tremendous opening and purifying of our fields of intention, which can then infuse our meditation practice as well as our entire life. We discover that we can indeed love and that everything comes back to love.
So I thought how Meta would it be to use Metta as the show name about metaphysical metamorphosing because everything we will touch upon in this series goes back to this idea of what are we supposed to do with all of this information and how we can strive to live more heart-centered in our daily lives.
