Tennessee is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Vols’ undefeated 1998 championship team this weekend when the Vols host Florida. And we wanted to celebrate that here at RTI by talking with someone who’s written about that season.

John Norwood is the author of Rebuilding Year, a novel about the 1998 National Championship Vols. His novel is more than a book about a sports team, though; he also tells a story about a boy whose life changes drastically when his parents get divorced and his dad buys season tickets to Tennessee’s 1998 season.

We spoke with John about his book, what inspired him to write it, what being a Vol fan in Knoxville was like in the 1990s, his thoughts on Jeremy Pruitt, and much more.
