Poem: Maya

Listen Later

The literal meaning of the word "Maya" is illusion. According to many schools of Hinduism, the world is an illusion; a play of the supreme consciousness of God. It is a projection of things and forms that are temporarily phenomenal and sustain the illusion of oneness and permanence. Maya therefore creates the ignorance of the individual self.

There is a devil inside me,

Eating me away,
An uncontrollable force,
Leading me astray.
She enhances my vices,
Encourages me to do wrong,
A battle between good and bad,
A fight to be strong.
She tempts my senses towards evil,
Veils my sight to be blind,
Obstructs my spiritual growth
She influences my mind.
What is this powerful force,
Creating a destructible intrusion,
A force of dominant energy,
Which itself is an illusion.
I cannot let her prevail,
If I want to go higher,
I need to take control,
I need to conquer Maya...
