[Poetry] #1: Singularity by Marie Howe

Listen Later

Placed under the magnifying glass today is Singularity by Marie Howe, a science poem exploring issues of loneliness, identity and home. For some context, this poem builds on the Singularity Theorem, as postulated by the late Stephen Hawking, that suggests the universe was born of an infinitely dense point of energy. Within it, every law of physics no longer holds: time and space cease to exist. The absolute dissolution of time and space opens up new spaces of imagination (hah, irony!), containing fascinating philosophical implications the poem slowly uncovers and presents to us all, before it ultimately reframes how we perceive space, belonging and our contemporary interpersonal relations with others.

(also, while editing this podcast, I realised how many times I had butchered Marie's name... so Marie, if you see this, which you likely won't, please forgive me HAHAHA :|)
