Women are the subject of most of my poems; I tend to portray with ease their clandestine and confined emotions, unsaid words and somewhere their suppressed voices from patriarchy. As Dr. Santosh Bakaya has rightly said in the Foreword for this poem of mine, this is an allegorical poem with hidden meanings and answers in the varied layers of it. This poem is from the anthology Arising from the Dust, that I proudly am part of and is one of the participating writers among the gem of some other brilliant writers. Published by Archaic House this is Meera Barath’s grand venture that she took a year back and the book is her curative effort.

The poem I have read here is very close to my heart. I have grown up seeing myriad women looking the most beautiful in their ordinary avatar when they were running errands and they were busy cooking. How the confines in which they lived in meant the whole world to them. And when did I grow up and became one of those women reflecting the lineage. This is my tribute to all the beautiful women who do so much and yet expect so less in return. Their family is their whole world and they are the true Goddesses in every sense. Come let’s hear out this Satirical poem on the lives my Indian Women which will resonate with many of you out there.
I am Monalisa Joshi and you are listening to Poetry Closet and today I am reading my poem ‘Indian Goddesses of the Kitchen’ from my Published poetry Anthology ‘Terracotta Dreams’ available worldwide on Amazon.

Moina still feels like a new bride whenever her husband brings for her a new Silk Sari, she wants to leave all the humdrums of her life and want to spend the moments within his arms. He too keenly waits for her to adorn the Silk over her body and come to him timid and shy just like the first time he had seen her and how much pride he feels to have her as his wife.
This is the second part of a love tale set in a rural backdrop, where an ordinary woman Moina lives with her lover and their world is perfect for the two of them.

Home is a word that comforts us, home is a word that reminds us of who we are and where we have to come in the end. And a home filled with love of a lover, you would want to again and again come back from all that keeps you busy in the outside world. The place where you belong and will wither away from! A place where you make beautiful moments and memories of life. A poem dedicated to this homebound feeling, ‘Take me Home’.
