In its early days, many looked to the internet as a tool for people from around the world to connect and share ideas freely. But the last few decades have shown that authoritarian governments the world over see the internet as a challenge to their power and have taken steps to limit the ways people can share their thoughts and organise. This is the shift that our guest, Trần Quỳnh-Vi of Legal Initiatives for Vietnam, has seen happen in Vietnam today. In this episode we talk to her to understand the ways that the government tries to limit internet freedoms in Vietnam, and how they have forced the hand of tech companies to comply with their regulations.
