Every Oklahoma State fan knows Pistol Pete. However, if you ask the 96 men who have put on that head, the story of Pistol Pete means so much more. Frank Eaton is the real-life Cowboy who inspired the Pistol Pete mascot Cowboy fans know and love today. Honoring his legacy is essential to the audition process and key to joining the fraternity. In 2023, Oklahoma State is celebrating the Year of the Cowboy to commemorate 100 years of Frank Eaton and Pistol Pete. In this episode of the Pokes Pod, we introduce you to five past and present Pistol Pete’s—Rick Wilson, Scott Petty, Billy Sigman, Steven Vekony and Bryce Coon. They share why they wanted to be Pistol Pete, what their audition experience was like and favorite memories. Here is part one of our conversation.
