Here's a recap of the 1st episode of the season 1 premiere of Police Squad, A Substantial Gift (The Broken Promise)

Plot: Sally Decker (Kathryn Leigh Scott), a teller at a credit union, murders her boss so she can steal money from the credit union and pay her orthodontist the money she owed. She kills a customer and frames him for the murder. The Police Squad department is called in to investigate the case; Frank is suspicious about the customer's guilt.
