Finding common ground necessary to make progress between groups with different points of view toward a shared goal.An ability to listen to two sides in a dispute, and devise a compromise acceptable to bothNot:
accept standards that are lower than is desirable.HYPOTHESIS
For politics to be successful, for humanity to be successful we must revive the ancient art of compromise
We have to treat the other side with respect.. stop calling those that disagree with you idiots, derogatory names, etc.
We have to spend more time with the Others..
We have to learn to listen with the goal of understanding why the Others think differently. What is different in their background, education, religion, and nature that allows them to see the world differently than you.
Find agreed problems/goals.
Find what the Other and you agree on.
Can you find a way to describe a sub-problem that you both agree needs fixing and that there is a chance for a common solution?
Can you find solutions that you both agree on? If not, can you accept trying one of his solutions if you will try one of his?
If you can't agree on any common ground, can you agree to reconvene in a social venue to discuss another problem?
