Embracing the heavy, pounding depths of the dancefloor, the POMcast series moves ahead in 2023. A stark shift from the indigenous focus with Ph03nix Fir3, this techno mix is a pleasant reminder that there’s always more sounds and styles to explore. EVERYONELOVESCHARLIE, originally from Rennes (Brittany) but who lived in Sweden, Paris and Canada, explains their mindset, one which we can all relate to: “Music is the place I find myself back every time I get lost. And damn, I was lost, trapped in my cloudy room at that time. I needed to play some music, so here is a piece of the wandering I faced earlier in the year. As they say, not all those who wander are lost.”

Forging their own path through the flames, PH03NIX FIR3 celebrates their heritage on the first POMcast of 2023. Heavy yet emotive, this bass-driven journey by the selector from Stillwater, Minnesota, USA, exclusively features the sonic works of indigenous artists. There’s an important cultural contrast here, following BloodPreshah’s “Country Cousins” project featuring the vocals of Loretta Lynn. Be prepared for some self-reflection on the dance floor, about honoring agreements and breathing life into rights and responsibilities. #LandBack

The Venus de Lespugue is a 25 000 years old ivory figurine of a nude female figure discovered in 1922 in the Rideaux cave of Lespugue (Comminges, Haute-Garonne) in the foothills of the Pyrénées. Approximately 6 inches (150 mm) tall, it is carved from tusk ivory, and was damaged during excavation.

Of all the steatopygous (large posterior) Venus figurines discovered from the upper Paleolithic, the Venus of Lespugue, if the reconstruction is sound, appears to display the most exaggerated female secondary sexual characteristics, especially the extremely large, pendulous breasts.

Since we are celebrating 100 years of his discovery this Tuesday, August 9th 2022. Pomegranate Sounds has made a selection inspired by this incredible, mysterious and unique statuette. The soundtrack of a deep mystical journey 25 000 years ago in different time and space…
