Pond preparation, stocking of Hatchery, Nursery, grow out ponds and harvesting of shrimp

Listen Later

Shrimp farming begins with thorough pond preparation, ensuring the environment is clean and conducive for healthy shrimp growth. This involves draining old water, removing sludge, applying lime to adjust pH, and refilling the pond with clean, filtered water. Once prepared, the ponds are fertilized to promote the growth of natural plankton, the shrimp's primary food source.
Then the ponds are stocked with eggs, larvae & juveniles. They are fed with protein diet until they grow to market size.
Finally, the process concludes with harvesting. The water level in the pond is reduced, and the shrimp are carefully netted, sorted, and prepared for market, ensuring quality and freshness. Shrimp are often harvested when they reach the desired size, depending on market demand.
