The Catholic church has long been responsible for pushing beliefs that have caused people to be marginalized, excluded, even attacked killed for who they are. I am hoping that this move by Pope Francis signals and New Direction. I believe Pope Francis as seen the situation we are in and has decided that the way to get us through this is with love, not hate. He sees what we all see:
Amy Coney Barrett is about to be confirmed to the Supreme Court and will vote to destroy marriage equality.
The question now is whether she will defer to the Pope, or decide that her own fundamentalist interpretation of the Bible is the right direction.
