Vatican News: Pope Leo’s ‘Magnifica humanitas’: AI must serve humanity not concentrate power

Marking the 135th anniversary of Rerum novarum, Pope Leo XIV releases his first encyclical, entitled ‘Magnifica humanitas: On Safeguarding the Human Person in the Time of Artificial Intelligence.’ He appeals for the safeguarding of humanity, promotion of truth, dignity of work, social justice, and peace.

Dr. Charles Camosy is an American Catholic ethicist and author who frequently explores how artificial intelligence, biotechnology and digital culture affect the human person, family life and society, emphasizing the need for technology to serve authentic human flourishing rather than diminish human relationships, moral responsibility or human dignity. He is a professor at the Catholic University of America.
