Pork is now the most widely consumed protein across the globe, accounting for 40% of all meat consumption in 2022. In this episode, Dr. Dale W. Rozeboom joins us to take us through the life cycle of a pig turned into a pork product. This includes how piglet breeding strategy, what life on the farm is like for these animals and how they are then turned into American-favorite pork products. About The Guest:Dr. Dale W. Rozeboom has been a member of the Michigan State University Department of Animal Science faculty since 1992. He teaches courses focused on discovering and exercising skills in evaluating and solving management problems of swine farming and understanding aspects of environmental sustainability associated with animal agriculture. His Extension efforts run parallel with his teaching, providing leadership in applied management, nutrition, and the sustainability of intensive and extensive pork production systems. Dr. Rozeboom has served the state of Michigan as chair of Michigan Department of Agriculture, Right-to-Farm Generally Accepted Agricultural and Management Practices (GAAMPs) Review Committees. As a researcher, he most recently has studied the feeding of a direct-fed microbial and (or) fiber to improve the health of the transition pig. Dr. Rozeboom holds B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Animal Science from the University of Minnesota.
