Portuguese lessons wherever you want them
This Berlitz hour-long CD is perfect for learning introductory Portuguese in advance of your trip to Brazil or Portugal as you commute to and from work or around the house. You may want to follow along with the handy text the first time through, then work on pronunciation in the car or otherwise on the move. Native speakers provide lots of practice. I found the text necessary to be sure of the individual words in the commonly used phrases in the lessons.
Not Brazilian Portuguese
Be aware that this is European Portuguese, not Brazilian. Phrases and accent learned here will only be half useful in Brazil.
While Portugal may be the "mother" of the language, the European Portuguese speakers in the world are dwarfed by the number of Brazilian Portuguese speakers. Brazilian Portuguese is the dominant Portuguese and, as such, more generally useful. If you live in the US, you are far more likely to run into Brazilian Portuguese speakers than European speakers. I have met countless Brazilians, and only ever known 1 European Portuguese speaker. If you are wanting to learn Portuguese and have no specific reason to learn the European flavor, learn the Brazilian flavor. You will fare much better (much like the American Spanish vs. Spain Spanish debate, although the differences in Portuguese are even greater).
I gave it a 3 because it is useful if you need to go to Europe, so it just depends on the goal.
