In this Step 1 AA session, Wayne explores the tragic irony of alcoholics who possess remarkable talents and abilities, yet consistently sabotage their own potential through their addiction. The Big Book describes how many alcoholics are perfectly sensible and well-balanced in every aspect of life except when it comes to liquor, where they become incredibly dishonest and selfish.

Wayne reflects on how many of us have been told we have amazing potential, whether in art, music, or other skills, only to squander these gifts due to addiction. The dishonesty and selfishness driven by alcoholism often lead us to destroy what we’ve worked so hard to build, leaving behind a trail of broken dreams and lost opportunities. This session highlights the importance of recognizing this pattern and embracing the spiritual principles of the 12 Steps to break free from the cycle of self-destruction. By doing so, we can reclaim our talents and use them for a greater purpose.
