What if the reason your business isn't working isn't because you need better tactics—but because you're following someone else's playbook?
In this episode, I sit down with Andrew Jones of the Business Insider Roundtable Podcast to talk about why conventional business advice often falls short for established entrepreneurs.
I've spent more than two decades in business, earned an MBA, worked with some of the world's biggest brands, built multiple businesses, and navigated very different business models. What I've learned is that there are foundational principles of business that don't change—but the way you apply them has to be specific to you.
Every founder has their own operating manual. Their own strengths, wiring, instincts, and way of making decisions. The problem is that we've built an industry around taking those individual differences out of the equation and replacing them with formulas, frameworks, and cookie-cutter strategies.
In this conversation, we talk about:
- Why traditional business theory still matters—but can't be the entire answer.
- What I mean when I say every founder has their own "manual."
- Why alignment isn't just about values—it's about how your business actually operates.
- How I combine my MBA and strategic business background with Human Design and intuition.
- Why the right strategy for one founder can be completely wrong for another.
- The difference between having a strategy and having a strategy that actually fits you.
- Why influence, authority, and magnetism can't be manufactured through a formula.
- How I learned to trust my own judgment after 22 years in business.
- Why I don't believe entrepreneurs should blindly follow advice about what they "should" be doing.
- How I used my own podcast as an experiment to discover who was actually resonating with my work—and built my offers from that data.
- Why your audience can often sense when you're operating from someone else's recipe.
- What to do when you're stuck: start by looking at what you're doing that you genuinely don't want to be doing.
- Why you don't need to build your business around TikTok, a giant team, or an empire if that's not actually what you want.
- The importance of recognizing when something isn't working before you reach a total failure state.
This conversation is ultimately about something bigger than business tactics:
Cookie cutter frameworks produce cookie cutter results — and what to do instead
Raw, unscripted, no agenda. Just the thing said plainly.
It's what I do.
