During Ohio State-Penn State week, we did not expect that the Buckeyes' excellent recruiting efforts would be the story of the week, but here we are. That is how much things are trending OSU's way in the 2022 class with some of the nation's elite prospects, such as quarterback Quinn Ewers.
However, make no mistake: Tomorrow night's game in Happy Valley is huge. If the Buckeyes win this one, it could be smooth sailing all the way until Dec. 12 when the rivals from the north come to Columbus. There were some questions about Ohio State's linebackers entering spring. However, leaving spring there is quite a bit of optimism that the Buckeyes are set up very nicely at linebacker. The projected starters look good with fifth-year senior Cody Simon and junior C.J. Hicks. Also turning in good springs were junior Sonny Styles and third-year sophomore Gabe Powers, who are both sure to play a lot this fall in James Laurinaitis' rotation. Another young linebacker to keep an eye on is sophomore Arvell Reese.
Dave Biddle flies solo on today's show and takes a close look at the Buckeyes' situation at linebacker for 2024, plus:
* The "Tat 5" is calling for the 2010 season to be restored, including all statistics. In light of Reggie Bush getting his Heisman back, it makes sense. Will it work? Probably not, but we're on their side and we hope it does. Keep in mind the Buckeyes were 12-1 that season, with a Big Ten championship and a Sugar Bowl win. And of course Jim Tressel's ninth win over Michigan in 10 tries.
* The first round of the NFL Draft is tonight, beginning at 8 ET. Will Marvin Harrison Jr. be the first non-QB off the board?
* It is slim pickings in the transfer portal right now. The best offensive tackle in the portal is Andrew Chamblee from Arkansas, who started eight games as a redshirt freshman in 2023 at left tackle and earned SEC All-Freshman honors. He was a 4-star prospect coming out of high school (No. 18 OT, No. 204 overall prospect in 2022 class, per 247Sports) but is ranked as a 3-star in the transfer portal. 247Sports ranks him as just the No. 22 OT and the No. 445 overall player to enter the portal since the end of the 2023 season. Do we think he would be an automatic upgrade compared to OSU's current tackles? Yeah, probably not.

Linebacker expectations | 'Tat 5' wants 2010 season restored

We talk a lot about Ohio State's quarterbacks on today's show as Matt Baxendell joins Dave Biddle. How confident are we that Will Howard will be the Buckeyes' starter and perform well? If Howard is the starter, it seems likely that another quarterback will transfer. Who might that be? Or is there a legit chance all five scholarship QBs stick around for the 2024 season?
Also, are the Buckeyes looking to add an offensive tackle via the transfer portal. Will they find one?
On Tuesday, The Athletic quoted several anonymous NFL scouts who say they prefer Malik Nabers over Marvin Harrison Jr. in tomorrow's NFL Draft. Heresy? Or is there something to this?

St. Clair superlatives | Buckeyes staff hits road

It is NFL Draft week and that is cause for celebration. It will be a light year for Ohio State's standards with perhaps just five Buckeyes hearing their names called this week. However, that is perfectly fine with us because it means a bunch of guys came back who would have at least been second-day (second-third round) picks.
Speaking of all those guys coming back, just how many OSU players will be drafted next year? If we set the over/under at 12.5, which way are you rolling?
Also, center Felix Okpara is taking his basketball and going ... well ... not home. But he has decided Ohio State will no longer be his home as he entered the transfer portal yesterday. What led up to this? What do we think of the job that Jake Diebler is doing overall thus far?
