Dr. Derrick MacFabe et al. authored the study entitled Neurobiological effects of intraventricular propionic acid in rats: Possible role of short chain fatty acids on the pathogenesis and characteristics of autism spectrum disorders. Dr. MacFabe's research examines a panel of gut-bacterial metabolic products (short-chain fatty acids) associated with antibiotic-associated diarrhea. His work further explores the ability of these products to produce neuroinflammatory, epigenetic, and behavioral changes similar to those seen in autism spectrum disorders. Dr. MacFabe is Director and Assistant Professor, Departments of Psychology (Neuroscience) & Psychiatry (Division of Developmental Disabilities), Kilee Patchell-Evans Autism Research Group, University of Western Ontario. Join Teri and Dr. MacFabe for this fascinating discussion.
