Post-natal depression: One woman's heartbreaking & courageous story

Listen Later

Trigger warning: This podcast discusses suicide and themes related to suicide and mental health.

On this episode of Women Supporting Women, the lovely Eda, a Fernwood personal trainer, mum to two beautiful boys, and all-round wonderful woman, sits in the guest chair to talk about a very important and sensitive issue – post-natal depression.

Following the birth of her second son, Eda found herself in a very low place. She was extremely exhausted, she isolated herself from friends, found herself crying for no reason, and was experiencing thoughts of suicide. It was five months post-birth that Eda broke down to her husband, and then found herself sitting in her GP’s office acknowledging and accepting that she had post-natal depression.

In this podcast episode, Eda talks openly about her journey with post-natal depression, seeking professional help and support, and the importance of being patient with and kind to ourselves. Eda and our host Caitlin chat candidly about motherhood and pelvic floor muscles, and how Caitlin found herself remembering the words “giving birth is just like teaching a spin class” during the birth of her twin girls.
